Essendon Fields is located on Commonwealth land and comprises part of the Essendon Airport Site, which is leased from the Australian Government to Essendon Airport Pty Ltd (EAPL).
Since privatisation of Essendon Airport in 2001, EAPL has demonstrated its commitment to establishing a commercially viable, safe and functional general aviation facility which meets the needs of projected aviation requirements whilst utilising the property’s strategic land holdings for high quality commercial development.
As the site is owned by the Commonwealth, the Victorian Planning Provisions do not apply and land use planning is instead regulated by the Federal Government through the Airports Act 1996.
